We are pleased to announce the development of an innovative vehicle equipped with advanced sensors to boost research in AI, computer vision, and autonomous vehicles. This project, called USEFUL, is the result of a strategic collaboration between Beamagine, the Center for Sensors, Instrumentation, and Systems Development at UPC (CD6), and additional technology partners.
USEFUL aims to create a comprehensive dataset combining multiple 3D and 2D image modes, collected under various environmental conditions such as clear skies, rain, fog, and snow. This information will enhance the development of vision algorithms to improve the safety and effectiveness of autonomous driving systems.
Beamagine contributes to this project with its L3CAM sensor, an all-in-one sensor fusion solution combining a high-resolution 3D LIDAR with color, polarimetric, and thermal cameras, all integrated within an embedded AI platform. This multi-sensor technology drastically reduces false alarms by harnessing the advantages of each sensor type.
Our partners, Anello Photonics and QNAP Spain, are also key collaborators on the project, providing a GNSS/INS unit to ensure precise vehicle localization in GPS-denied environments and a high-performance storage solution for large data collection, respectively.
Beamagine and UPC will be present at the Smart City Expo World Congress (Barcelona, November 5-7), where we will showcase the vehicle and the USEFUL sensor system. We look forward to welcoming all visitors to our booth to demonstrate how this technology is shaping the future of automotive and society!
